NYC New Year’s Eve Weather – Dec 29, 2017

A light snow tops off 2017. The new year comes with a continued stretch of arctic cold. Make sure to bundle up for your New Year’s Eve festivities as this may be one of the coldest nights we’ve seen. Cold extends well into next week where we could see a more substantial snow storm.

Rest of today – increasing clouds, cold, with high temperatures in the low-20s.

Saturday – a weak storm system moving from the Great Lakes and a secondary coastal low should bring a light snowfall of 1-2″ in the city. High temperatures in the mid-20s.

Sunday (New Year’s Eve) – Arctic high pressure returns with a vengeance. High temperatures around 20°F, with mostly sunny skies.

Monday (New Year’s Day) – bitterly cold temperatures overnight hovering in the low teens. Wind chill will make frostbite a real issue. High temperatures Monday struggle to break even 20°F.

A quick update here to give you all the weather for the upcoming New Years’ Eve celebrations this weekend. It should be a good night for festivities on Saturday, with only a slight chance for any precipitation. More substantial rains come Monday, cleansing us of the past year!

Rest of today – some widely scattered light snow showers are possible. Should be a mostly sunny day otherwise. Temperatures will be dropping to around 30ºF in the city overnight.

Saturday (New Year’s Eve) – partly sunny through the day but then mostly cloudy in the overnight hours as a weak storm system approaches from the west. This may bring a glancing shot at some rain showers overnight. High temperatures in the low-40s. Overnight lows should be not too chilly, in the upper-30s.

Sunday – New Year’s Day should see clouds decreasing, but clouds will increase again overnight as a more vigorous storm system approaches. High temperatures warm up a bit before this frontal boundary passes late on Monday, should top out in the mid-40s.

Monday – chance of a rain/snow mix in the city early in the day as temperatures will be cold enough, but this should transition to all rain by the afternoon hours with high temperatures in the mid-40s again.

NYC New Years Weekend Weather Update – Dec 31, 2015

The New Year will finally bring some more seasonable weather to the region as temperatures dip in response to a building area of high pressure and west-northwest winds over the weekend. It will be an uneventful weekend otherwise, with generally dry conditions.

Rest of today – mostly cloudy to partly sunny with high temperatures around 50ºF. For New Year’s Eve celebrations tonight, temperatures will drop rather quickly into the low-40s by midnight.

Friday (New Years Day) – cool, though still above normal with high temperatures in the low-40s and sunny skies.

Saturday – cool and dry conditions prevail with high temperatures again in the low-40s. Overnight lows will be in the low-30s.
